Here, the daily struggle\u00a0to survive is complicated by the near\u00a0lawlessness of the environment.<\/p>\n<p>The slums are tightly controlled by \u201cstrong\u00a0men\u201d and outsiders are distrusted.\u00a0Through patience and perseverance,\u00a0ZOE India\u2019s Country Manager Jabez\u00a0William gained the support of the slum\u00a0gatekeepers and now helps hundreds of\u00a0vulnerable children achieve what others\u00a0thought impossible &#8211; financial and social\u00a0empowerment.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-11974 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wearezoe.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/170215_Zoe-India-Carter-Rose-0108-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/170215_Zoe-India-Carter-Rose-0108-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/170215_Zoe-India-Carter-Rose-0108-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/170215_Zoe-India-Carter-Rose-0108-1024x683.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Fatherless and unable to walk,\u00a0Lakshmanan was a slum orphan without\u00a0resources or opportunities to support\u00a0himself and three siblings. However, as he\u00a0now observes, \u201cZOE is giving life to people\u00a0who are physically challenged.\u201d\u00a0After ZOE provided training in computer\/\u00a0cell phone repair and a grant to purchase\u00a0a laptop, tool kit and soldering equipment,\u00a0Lakshmanan launched his small business.\u00a0A short time later, he added a motorbike\u00a0delivery service. Now he can take his\u00a0business outside the slum and connect\u00a0with the larger community, a primary goal\u00a0of ZOE.<\/p>\n<p>Lakshmanan epitomizes how ZOE\u00a0transforms the lives of children no\u00a0matter what environmental or physical\u00a0disadvantages they face. This success \u00a0is\u00a0sustainable because ZOE provides three\u00a0years of business training and mentoring\u00a0while the working group offers support,\u00a0protection and facilitates continued\u00a0investment.
